ELGi Equipments was founded in 1960 in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, and has spent more than six decades building compressors from first principles. The defining capability is ELGi's in-house oil-free airend. Most compressor companies that sell "oil-free" machines source the airend — the component that actually defines the oil-free claim — from a third party. ELGi designs and manufactures its own oil-free airend at its dedicated Air Compressor Plant near Coimbatore, equipped with high-precision grinding, milling, and turning machinery alongside a metrology laboratory and in-house testing. The eta-V rotor profile reduces inter-stage pressure loss; cupronickel water-in-tube coolers resist corrosion over the machine's service life.
The OF Series delivers ISO 8573-1 Class 0 air — zero detectable oil — which is the certification a food, pharmaceutical, electronics, or medical-device buyer requires when auditing a compressed-air system. ELGi holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, and the OF Series carries Class 0 certification to ISO 8573-1.

Packaging & Printing → Clean compressed air for food-grade packaging lines requiring oil-free certification. If the end-use application or customer's quality system requires ISO 8573-1 Class 0 (zero detectable oil), the ELGi OF Series is the correct line. If Class 1 oil-free air (achieved by filtration of an oil-lubricated compressor) is acceptable, a different product line may apply. Confirm the customer's specification before quoting.
The OF Series covers approximately 60–500 HP. For applications below 60 HP requiring oil-free air, discuss with SPC — the ELGi range in this tier may differ. For applications above 500 HP, centrifugal or larger two-stage configurations should be evaluated.
Fixed-speed suits applications with steady, predictable demand at or near full compressor output. Variable-speed drive (VSD) suits applications with variable demand cycles — it avoids the energy waste of unloaded running and typically pays back the premium in operating cost savings over 2–4 years.
Confirm the required operating pressure and pressure class of the system. ELGi OF Series pressure ratings should be matched to the plant distribution pressure — oversizing pressure wastes energy; undersizing leaves production pressure-starved. Confirm the model's rated pressure against the application before quoting.
