Size to peak demand CFM, not HP. The CP piston range covers 2–20 HP for lighter duty; the CPB/CPC screw range covers 15–60 HP for production loads. Overlap at 15–20 HP is a technology decision (duty cycle, not capacity).
Tank-mounted units provide on-board storage and dampen cycling in intermittent applications. Base-mounted screw compressors pair with a separate receiver when system volume is needed — right call when the compressor is centralized and the tank is remote.
Single-phase (120V/240V) covers smaller piston units where three-phase service is not available — common in smaller shops and garages. Three-phase is standard for the rotary screw range and the industrial two-stage piston tier; confirm available service before spec.
