Built to Run Longer.

Baldor Electric was founded in 1920 by Edwin Ballman and Emil Doerr, initially in St. Louis and then anchoring its manufacturing in Fort Smith, Arkansas, where the company has operated its principal production facilities for over six decades.

In 2011 Baldor was acquired by ABB, one of the world's largest electrical engineering groups, and the motor line now carries the Baldor-Reliance brand within ABB's global motors and mechanical portfolio.

The Baldor-Reliance nameplate is the US industrial market's longstanding benchmark for NEMA-frame electric motors. The line spans general-purpose, compressor-duty, explosion-proof, severe-duty, and premium-efficiency frames across a wide HP and voltage range. Compressor-duty motors are built to handle the high starting-torque and cyclic-load demands of reciprocating compressors — a different mechanical spec from a general-purpose motor in the same frame size.

As part of ABB, Baldor benefits from global engineering resources and manufacturing investment while retaining its US distribution network and the domestic production that makes it a viable choice for domestic-content accounts. Multiple Baldor manufacturing plants hold individual ISO 9001 certification, and the motor line carries UL listing and CSA certification across most standard frames.

Why source Baldor through SPC Company?

Regional availability where you need it

Baldor motors come through SPC's distribution network, supporting competitive lead times for compressor rebuilds and OEM-spec replacements without factory-direct shipping restrictions.

Spec the right frame, first time

With variant coverage spanning 56HZ through 215T frames across multiple RPM and horsepower ranges, SPC can confirm the correct frame and voltage for your application before the order is placed — avoiding the costly swap-out that comes from an incorrect replacement selection.

ABB-backed quality at distributor pricing

As an ABB company, Baldor motors carry a global industrial pedigree.

Not sure which Baldor line?

Answer a couple of quick questions and we'll confirm the right Baldor compressor-duty motor.
Single-phase vs. three-phase

Compressor-duty ODP motors in the SPC range are single-phase (208–230V), covering the 3–10 HP band typical of workshop and small commercial reciprocating compressors. Three-phase industrial replacements require separate selection from the broader Baldor-Reliance catalog.

Frame size and RPM

Match the replacement frame (56HZ through 215T) and RPM (1725 or 3450) to the original compressor nameplate first. Not every Baldor frame is a direct drop-in for every OEM motor; SPC confirms the cross-reference before the order is placed to avoid a costly swap-out.

Horsepower and service factor

The SPC range runs 3–10 HP with service factors of 1.00–1.15. Select HP at or above the compressor's rated draw; the service factor provides thermal headroom for high-cycle duty — do not rely on SF as a substitute for correct HP selection.
